Jun. 22nd, 2003 01:55 pmWhat a funky good time.
Hung out with Julian and Sam and Jeremey and Alex, and Eric last night. Ah the joys of doing an all night, all guy, all goofball eve.
We went to the Stinking Rose in Bev Hills. Good time. Loved the look on the faces of the valet when they saw my dirty, scratched up car. Priceless.
Had the Gnocci and split a bottle of wine with the boys, and talked. We sat around talking about the book on Movie History that Eric is writing. He's excited, as it's going to be published! Talked about Julian's some of everything. Sam's road trip deluxe. About Jer's getting-paid-as-a-writer woes. Talked about Dancing joys with Alex. Me? I just listened mostly. Quwipped in now and then.
Stinking Rose is a funny place. It's both tacky and high class. And I don't quite understand how they pull it off, but they do, and it's neat. There is a quilted and stuffed "stocking person" waitress in the foyer. There is a back gothie "Dracula's Grotto" in the back. We sat in the "Fake Fresco" room. It's like Cracker Barrel gone mad. With excellent food.
The waiters use some nifty electronic handheld thingy that looks like a tricorder from Star Trek, or that thing from Quantum Leap. Jer busted out a joke or something to the effect of "I keep waiting for him to say 'Sam, Gooshie says that he's 95.8% sure that you're here to stop that guy from getting fired...'"
Went back to Jer's place (his Sig O is outta town) and stayed talking until 3am...good times. We talked about some of everything: Movies, and writing, and reading habits, and good and bad fantasy and science fiction. About Tolkien. A LOT about Tolkien. About Gaming. About writing Games.
And then the Harry Potter conversation started.
Jer had just gotten his in the mail from Amazon yesterday morning and had started reading it. Already on page 200. Good man. And then talking about the audio version. Julian and Sam decided to get a copy of the audio one to do the drive back to Boston. Excellent.
Got home late (just like most saturday nights) feeling happy and strangely fulfilled. And strangely enough, hungry. Go figure.
I think that I want to go to the Amazon. Sorry. Random Non-Sequitor.
