Who knew...
Jul. 30th, 2003 12:54 amToday was a nutty day.
The boss and the big boss were gone all day today, and you know what they say: "When the Cat's away, the mice will play." And it held true. Save that these mice were playing at being productive, as always happens when the Baroness of Stress leaves the office.
We got lots done. I actually got my underlings to bid my warnings, and actually got them to understand that we have to play the game and just suck up dealing with der boss. As in "Work when you have it, and play when you have time." It was good.
And then after a bunch of crazy stuff, the Big Boss came back and called a meeting of the whole office to make an announcement: He is going to close our Arizona office at the end of August. Now that was a shocker.
We would be taking over all of their casework as of October (the hard close date for them), and all of their gear. The Big Boss would be letting three folks go, sad as it is. One of which has been with the company for the past 6 years, and another who has only been there for three months.
And the sad thing is that this is the best economical move for the company. Not that we've been running in the red, but we would just make more into the black by closing it. And we're already a small company as it is.
And the truly horrible part of this is I now have doubly secure job security. And I fear another raise.
"How can that be bad?" I hear you decry. Because I hate my job. And I'm kind of locked into it. And, as a good friend once told me, "Golden handcuffs are still handcuffs, no matter how bright they shine."
True, true.
