3 Hours Here...3 Hours there...
Jun. 9th, 2004 12:51 amSunday was spent touring the greater LA and Orange County Area.
Drove up to have a Lunch Meeting (my God, we're actually "doing lunch." I am afraid), with Alex. We hit Norms (on...I wanna say Olympic, but I'm not sure; I never pay attention...) and sat discussing a short, and plans, and whatnot. Then hung at his place for a while, discussing more on direction, funding, and a itty bitty bit about VEGAS! We are working to make it work, and that's just COOL. All in all, a pretty good three hours or so.
I decided that while I was in the area, I would catch up Jer (
fajitas), who I haven't seen in like a year, even though I've been within 3 blocks of his place a good deal in the last four months.
Poor lad, Jer. He's been ill, with The Martian Death Flu, which umpteen thousand versions of which have been floating around. But it was good to catch up with him--though sans his better half, as Ms. Tonia was out. We chatted on film, TV, Quest, writing, his up and coming Wedding, politics, and just about everything else under the sun. Good time spent with a good guy, who I haven't seen in far too long. Gotta keep up the visitations. Three hours well spent.
Left his pad about 6 or so, and en route home, decided to phone up Bri Bri and Nellie to get directions to their new digs. I did the turn off of the 91 into Yorba Linda about 7ish, and got the grand tour upon my arrival.
They paid a good penny for their condo, but save for the location, it's a great place. Two and a half baths, two bedrooms, nice sized living roome, a nice kitcen dining room thingy, a pantry, and a spacious mud room, and they can see the fireworks at Disneyland from their bedroom.
Too bad it's in Podunk, OC. I wish they were closer, especially for folks who are always "why don't you come over here and hang out?" Because, my dearies, you live in PODUNK, OC. I am afraid that I shall never see them. But hey, we'll always have Long Beach...
Anyrate, spent a nice time there, hanging out, eatin' cookies and Bartles and James (how 80's of us), and watching (god why?) the loosin' battle of the Laker game 1, and watching them play with their new Tivo.
Janelle decided to head upstairs for bed, and I and Bri stood around and chatted for a little bit, about stress, jobs, and life. Honestly, were it not for his job, I think he'd be quite happy right now. Not that he's unhappy, but he's feeling a bunch of undue stress, and I worry for him. But that's the advertising industry for ya. I just hope that he figures out what he wants to do, because frankly, *I* hurt for him with his 18 hour days, and hour and a half commute. Especially when he's unhappy about some of the internal politics. But hey, he knew the job was dangerous when he took it ("Bwaaaaak! For Super Chicken! Bwaaaak! For Super Chicken!").
I got back on the road, having said my goodbyes from a good 3 hour visit, and bumped prince the whole way (Musicology is a great album), and pulled up to my home sweet home circa 10ish.
Three hours later, I was attempting to sleep, failing miserably, and eventually got a solid three in before the alarm clock rang.
Got to work, managed to do three hours worth of solid work before lunch, got another 3 hours before my brain checked out, and rushed home to catch the last 3 hours of NHL hockey for the season, and then, three hours later, started what would turn out to be a three hour conversation with my mom.
Crashed out, got an hour of sleep before waking up from a dead sleep. After sitting in bed for an hour, I crashed out and managed 3 hours of sleep before waking up to another annoying alarm clock bray.
Got to work to learn that a coworker's Dad had died late monday night. The guy had been up all night, and didn't call in until right at 8 to say (obviously) that he wouldn't be in.
I took three cases off his desk, and worked on them. Made three phone calls each (no kidding), and then putzed around, trying to stay awake, and un-bored. We managed to get three retentions, three new cases, and by three o'clock, I was just completely burned out.
I got home about 5:30ish, and watched the three short films that Alex had loaned me, and then conked out until nineish (not quite a three hour nap), was fed a lovely omlette by mom, and watched the beginning of Victor/Victoria with the fam.
And then I got on line. That was about three hours ago.
The lesson from this: I need to sleep more than three hours tonight.
