Back from Sin City. And much tired.

Hunter S. Thompson described Las Vegas as the American Dream Realized. I think that it is more like the ultimate escape from reality; it is a stronger fantasy realm than even Walt Disney could ever dream.

There is a near perfect illusion of insulation from the world. It is cloaked from news, and time, and problems. There is only impulse, and the moment. There is The Now, and the thrill of now. It does it with booze, and money, and promises of The Land of Do As You Please. And it does, from time to time, deliever.

Las Vegas is a lie, but a beautiful, perfect, guilded lie. And I thank it for that.

There is a moment when the drive starts, and you turn down I-15 and start back on the long drive through the Desert, across the state line, through endless miles of dust and Choya. In that moment, you find yourself wondering if it was worth it.

I am filled with fuzzy memories, a lighter pocket book, and a good lie that I'll hold until the buzzer wakes me in 6 hours.
