Watching the news just hurts at this point. We can't reach the little family that we have in Mississippi as they don't have power of phones in Jackson, and I don't know if one cousin was still in New Orleans or not. There are places where my Grandmother spent time as a child that might have been whiped cleam from the face of the Earth. Just don't know yet.
I'm hoping that we can have a year, sometime soon, where nothing happens. No earthquakes, storms, tsunamis, bombings, war, brink of destruction, random disease outbreak, famine, plane or car crash or threatening gestures. I want a boring year where the worst thing is that Paris Hilton chips a nail. That'd be great.
For those who remember when I had a small alien living in my scalp for a while, my dissecting cellulitus is re-emerging. This happens from time to time, as best as I and the doctors can figure out, due to stress. It should go away soon, but this is the most painful it's been in a while. I don't think that I can go another 6 month treatment bout of high doses of Accutane and direct steroid injections. My liver nearly exploded last time. But hey, it's been supressed for nearly 7 years now, so it must have worked.
For anyone who's ever wondered why I'm so weird about people rubbing my head, this is why. Well, that and aside from the hair thing. And this incident in 4th grade where some very White girl decided to rub my "nigger hair," which felt "just like carpet." But the less said about that day, the better.
So, on the "ooooooo pretty!" distracting side of things, I'm going to have to see Snakes On A Plane. Yes, that's right, Samuel L. "Mother Fucker" Jackson will be in an action movie, called Snakes On A Plane. What's it about? I told you: "Mother Fucking Snakes. On A Mother Fucking Plane." This promises to be a horrible movie in that wonderful way. You know. Good bad. It's a movie about snakes on a plane--An Assassin wants to kill a guy on a plane. So he releases a crate of snakes on the plane. That's the plot. Oh, GOD, YES! Must! See!
I think this guy understands my glee. But then, he was also supposed to work on it.
(thanks to contrariety for the Snakes On A Plane link. I needed that.)
*hug* I didn't know that you had relatives in the Gulf Coast...I'll be thinking of you, and hoping that all of your family makes it out OK.
I think that's one of the scariest things about this - not being able to know the extent of the damage and loss, because people just can't get in to find out, or communicate with the outside world.
Yeah, a little bit of fam down there. Most of it in Mississippi, as that's where grandma's people are from. Though we've managed to lose track with a lot of them over the years.
But thanks for the thoughts. Fortunately, mom's last surviving brother is in L.A. So unless Los Angeles blows up, gets sucked into the ocean, or Riots again, it's all good on the homefront.
Besides, a friend of mine (out in the San Berdoo area) has Klingon ridges on his head, which are only visible when he shaves his head. That's much more in the "Rub my head" category!
Yeah, the carpet head should so not be funny, but it is. But it was a bad time, and in really poor context when it happened.
On the lighter side, there was an episode of The Family Guy where Stewie looked at the black guy who was staying with him and started dancing "can I touch it? Can I touch it? Oooo, it's just like a sheep!" I couldn't help but giggle--partly because that's a reaction I've had, and partly because I can't believe they actually went there.
*sigh* I actually like the feeling of the head being rubbed...but moreso when it was short and stubbly. I miss cutting my hair like that...
It's the beauty of their sick, sick, sick, stupid humour. Gotta love it. Or not.
Thanks. This is most upsetting for grandma, though mom is still kinda weirded out by it all. Most of our family is either passed on, or not on speaking terms. But the little smattering of family left in Mississippi is the only real tie that gran has to her roots there, and once it's gone, well, then, so's her childhood. It's a thing, as it were...

Ok that should not be funny, yet somehow it is.
I promise I'll never rub your head.

we're still waiting to hear about dan's grandparents. The rest of his family down there appears to be fine. I'll keep my fingers crossed for ya.

Keeping my fingers crossed for his grandparents, too. Glad to hear that the rest of his fam is good. Please send him my best.
