Sep. 12th, 2004 11:38 amFriday night. An early drive, a whole lot of drinks, a lot of dancing. Too much talking from me...I tend to run off at the mouth, even when I've not been socially lubricated. So, yeah. Blah blah blah.
Partyteers included, Dave, Drew (
snuff_daddy), Alice, Holly (
chatoyn), Andy (
time_adc), Melissa (
pussycatmeow), Dawn (
themissdawn), Michael (
europopkid), and others.
A bunch of us hit Canters afterwards, and did a lot of group drunk dialing. And cross call drunk dialing. Long Ass Messages. Amusing.
Saturday. Woken up not feeling too hot, because of Heat and Hungoverness. Grandma and mom announced that they were going to go buy a new Air Conditioner and that they would need me to put it in because it would be heavy.
Three hours later they showed up with the unit. I pulled it out of the car, and proceeded to wait an hour while mom muddled over the confusing directions. I slept on the floor. After a while, she finally handed stuff to me, I put on screw after screw after screw and rail onto the damn thing.
Then it was furniture moving to get at the old A/C. A big chair, a little table, and a heavy TV and TV stand. This was followed by a whole lot of cursing and pulling out old rotted weather stripping, and attempting to get the old heavy ass unit out.
It was full of water, which meant I had to do a lot of shifting and angling to make it pour *out* of the house and not onto the carpet. After nearly thrity minutes or so, and two near drops I pulled the heavy, awkward, slimy thing out and then carted it outside.
Then we realized that the old wooden stand it was on was rotted out. ALL of it. The board that held the old unit literally crumbled when I put pressure on it. The 2x4's that acted as support stilts had lost 2 inches to water damage. So we had to replace them.
The 'rents went off to the store. I lay there reading the Barfly screenplay by Bukowski. God Bless Amazon.
Another freaking hour later, and they returned. Flies were everywhere, and the sun was starting to set. Got the wood out of the car, went to measuring, and sawing, and drilling, and nailing, and after forever got the damn platform built.
Then came the near impossible chore of getting the thing in the window correctly, measuring the little window extension, and jamming it in. Took forever, because, nothing went right with it, our house isn't plumb, and our windows are old. But eventually I got it in there, and pretty well plugged up most of the holes. Better'n than the last one.
Got a big glass of water and toasted Jer and Tonia.
I think I hurt something in my back from all the lifting, so I just sat and enjoyed the new super cool air conditioned air...
Had along conversation with Melissa about stuff, and drinking, and bars, and men and women, and art. And then I took my tired ass to bed, and slept a dreamless sleep.
